Lyme Regis is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and in the 13th century developed into one of the country’s major ports and a centre of ship-building until the 19th century.
Thanks to careful conservation and strict planning the town has kept its historic beauty, but its narrow, winding lanes and lack of on-street parking mean that it is not somewhere you particularly want to bring your car along with the other thousands of visitors on the May Bank Holiday weekend.
We recommend the best way to get here is by rail or bus. There are direct rail links between London Waterloo and Axminster station, where the X31 bus service to Lyme Regis is timed to coincide with the trains.
If you absolutely must drive then Lyme Regis has park and ride facilities to the east and west of the town. The pickup and drop off points are detailed on the Google map opposite, along with the two main car parks on the outskirts at Holmbush, off Sidmouth Road to the west; and the Charmouth Road car park to the east. In town, Woodmead Halls car park is just off Woodmead Road; there are two car parks off Broad Street: Pitt House NCP and the Broad Street Car Park; and limited parking at Monmouth Beach.
